Catherine Peot Obituary

Catherine Lenore (Mickelson) Peot, after a faith-filled life, went home to be with the Lord on Feb. 24, 2026. She was 101.

A lifelong Door County resident and member of First Baptist Church in Sister Bay, Catherine was the only child of Walter and Ruby (Jacobson) Mickelson, born Oct. 28,1924, in Sister Bay. She attended Newport School in Gills Rock and Appleport School in Sister Bay before graduating from Gibraltar High in 1943.

Catherine worked at Berns Brothers Lumber Company and Bay Shipbuilding, where she met the love of her life, Donald Peot. After a long courtship, they married on June 1, 1957, at First Baptist Church. The union was blessed with two children, Michael and Rachel.

In 1961, Catherine and Don started an electrical contracting business, Don Peot Electric, which they operated until retiring in 1993. They especially enjoyed devising slogans and floats for local parades. A classic was a headless man costume bearing a sign with the slogan: “Don’t lose your head when you blow a fuse....Call Don Peot Electric!”

In their golden years, Catherine and Don traveled around the country and abroad to Israel, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Hawaii and Alaska. Don died suddenly while they vacationed in Alaska in 1999.

Catherine was active in her church her entire life, and she served as a volunteer for the Sister Bay Historical Society and Gibraltar Reunion Committees. For many years, Catherine and Don helped host a large, themed Labor Day party at the farm on Sumac Lane. Catherine enjoyed traveling, gardening and the beauty of Door County. “It’s another beautiful day in Sister Bay” was a favorite saying. She will be remembered for her positive outlook and energy, as well as her love of life, her family and her Lord.

She was proud to have reached the milestone of turning 100, which was celebrated with a luncheon at First Baptist for more than 100 family members and friends.

Survivors include her children, Michael (Cindy Trinkner-Peot) of Sister Bay and Rachel (John) Sommercorn of Appleton and Bonita Springs, FL; grandchildren Andrew Peot of Milwaukee and Aubrey Peot of Madison, Sara (David) Gilane of Waupaca and Ryan Sommercorn of Spartanburg, SC, and one great-grandchild Sadie Gilane; one sister-in-law, Ruth Peot of Institute and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 42 years, her parents and in-laws and Don’s 10 brothers and sisters and their spouses.

The family thanks the staff of Serenity Springs at Scandia Village for their care of Catherine this past year and a half and Unity Hospice for their end-of-life comfort.

Memorials in Catherine’s name may be directed to First Baptist Church of Sister Bay or Northern Door Children’s Center.

A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
